Channel Island Adventures-Original Painting

"Channel Islands Adventure" is an original oil painting in a walnut floater frame. 

The inspiration for painting was to capture remote places of interest. I chose the Channel Islands off the coast of California because they feature some of the largest sea caves in the US (and as you know, I am fascinated by underwater exploration!)

These islands have been referred to as the Galapagos of North American due to their biodiversity. Each island offers a different experience with unique wildlife, including 23 endemic animals unique only to the Channel islands. 

I painted Santa Cruz, the largest of the islands, most known for its massive sea caves. Santa Cruz has the largest and most well-known sea cave, called the "Painted or Rainbow" cave. It is accessible only by charter. 

The painted cave is covered in many different colors. During the rainy season there is a waterfall that falls over the mouth of the cave. Since I love to find and explore waterfalls, this one's definitely on my list! 

I took the liberty to add in a coral sky because several reference photos I saw have magnificent sunsets. Also I wanted to capture the painterly quality of the rocks as this is the "Painted cave" after all.
